Remote Learning March - July 2020

Each week's work is listed and dated in "In this section".

Home Learning Daily Schedule: Chestnut Class

In the event of a period of school closure, or if your child is undergoing a period of self-isolation, there is an expectation that they will continue to follow the EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage) curriculum from home. As a result, we have put together a set of daily expectations to help support this.

To support your child’s home learning, each Monday your child’s class teacher will upload a set of weekly Class Home Learning Plans to the website. You will find this in "Home Learning" which is in the "In This Section" box on each class page.  Each week's work will be dated.

This will reference various activities and online learning platforms that pupils will be expected to access. Please expect the first set of weekly Class Home Learning Plans to be uploaded on Monday 23rd March. The first Wider Curriculum Home Learning Matrix will also be sent out on Monday 23rd of March and will be sent out every other Monday that follows. If you are unable to access plans in this way, please contact the school office to arrange collection.

This week, pupils were sent home with:

-a pack of year-group specific paper activities for pupils/parents to select and use if needed

-an empty exercise book in which to record their home learning

-copies of pupil login details for the various online platforms to which they can have access

If your child is already self-isolating and they have not taken home any of these resources, please contact the school office to arrange collection.

Below is a daily learning schedule which outlines the amount of time that your child should spend participating in each curriculum area while learning from home:

Reading:

All Year 4 pupils should read an age appropriate text for a minimum of 50 mins per day. Ideally this would be under the close supervision and support of an adult. Specific reading foci and activities will be identified in the Class Home Learning Plans sent to each family at the start of the working week. Pupils are of course encouraged to supplement this basic reading expectation with additional periods of independent reading.

Spelling/Writing:

All Year 4 pupils should complete spelling/writing activities for a minimum of 50 mins per day. Ideally, this would be under the close supervision and support of an adult. Spelling and writing activities will be detailed in the Class Home Learning Plans sent home each week. Alternatively, pupils can select spelling/writing activities from the paper activity pack that was sent home with your child. Pupils are of course encouraged to supplement this basic spelling/writing expectation with additional periods of independent writing.

Maths:

All Year 4 pupils should complete Maths activities for a minimum of 50 mins per day. Ideally this would be under the close supervision and support of an adult. Maths activities will be detailed in the Class Home Learning Plans sent home each week. Alternatively, pupils can select Maths activities from the paper activity pack that was sent home with your child.

Wider Curriculum:

All Year 4 pupils should complete wider curriculum activities for a minimum of 75 mins per day. Ideally this would be under the close supervision and support of an adult. Wider curriculum activities can be selected from the Wider Curriculum Home Learning Matrix which will be sent out every 2-weeks.

By sticking to these basic daily expectations, and utilising the resources that your child’s class teacher sends out on a weekly basis, we can ensure that the effects of any prolonged period of school closure on your child’s education will be minimised.
