Maple Class

Week Beginning: Monday 15th June

Maple Class’ topic is ‘Cool Britannia’, an exploration of the country we live in. A lot of our learning is based around exploring Great Britain.

Maple Class now have a blog, which you can find on the schools website. I would love to see any work that you are proud of please email it to maple@st-barnabas.kent.sch.uk  I am also really happy to answer any questions or give any advice I can.

Sign up for this year’s Summer Reading Challenge.  It started on Friday 5 June and runs throughout the summer holidays, finishing at the end of September. It is aimed at children aged 4 – 11 and is completely free! The challenge features games, quizzes and downloadable activities to incentivise and encourage children and their families to take part in reading related activities at home. Children can choose their own reading goals, create book reviews, play games and collect virtual rewards. Parents and guardians can register their children online at www.sillysquad.org.uk

The website ‘Engage Literacy’ from Raintree is offering free access until July. Most of the books are most suitable for reception and key stage one but you may find something there is something useful for them here. Use the following login information:

Spelling

  • First, use the, Look Say Cover Write Check, resource.
  • Get a grown up to read the dictation answer sheet while you try to fill in the blank words on the dictation sheet. Don’t worry if you get any wrong, instead look at the answers and then have another go.
  • When you are feeling confident, logon to Purple Mash, there is a to do: Y3 SUM2 WK3-quiz.

 

Writing: We are carrying on looking at nonsense poems this week.

  • Look at the nonsense poems PowerPoint slides
  • Try to write your own version of ‘Twinkle twinkle’
  • Read (or listen to) the Jabberwocky by Lewis Carrol. What do you think the Jabberwocky looks like? Draw a picture
  • Look at the nonsense adjectives in the poem. Say what you think the adjectives mean in the worksheet.
  • Using real and nonsense adjectives, describe what the jabberwocky looks like. Try and describe where it lives and what it eats as well.

 

Maths: This week we are carrying on looking at the properties of shapes.

  • If you have a ruler with centimetres and millimetres markings, use it to measure things in your house. First to the nearest cm then to the nearest mm. You could try measuring: a pencil, a spoon, a phone, a book; then measure anything else you can find. Make sure you start measuring from the 0 mark not the bottom of the ruler.

  • Try one of the horizontal and vertical challenges
  • Go to Maths with Parents, watch the video about parallel and perpendicular lines and try the activities
  • Do the parallel and perpendicular worksheet

  • Try one of the Parallel and Perpendicular challenges
