1.Handwriting/Spelling
Copy out each of your spellings 5 times and then on a different piece of paper write each one out one by one covering them up and then check that you have written them correctly. If you have spelt a word incorrectly do the same thing again until you have written it correctly. Write a word as a pyramid if you are having trouble learning how to spell it. These are not easy words! thorough guarantee immediately yacht vehicle
2. Maths
Today we are still learning about prime numbers. Please watch the second White Rose Learning Video using the link vimeo.com/469694974 about prime numbers and have a piece of paper and a pen or pencil to jot down any answers or working out. Please remember to pause the video when you need to do calculations and give yourself plenty of time. Also remember that the answers are always given by the person who is presenting the videos. Remember to also show any of your working out. For your written task I have uploaded the White Rose Worksheet about prime numbers and the answer sheet. As an extension activity I have also uploaded Maths Mastery Power Point slides about prime numbers with an answer sheet.
2. English
1. Today we are focusing on Chapter 3 Rosie and Judd of ‘Street Child’. Imagine the conversation between Lizzie and Emily when they are left behind in the big house. With a grown up initially involve yourself in some role play. One of you is Lizzie and the other is Emily. What are they thinking and feeling? What do they think will happen to them? What are their feelings towards Rosie and Judd? How do they feel about being separated? Do they want to run away? As a written task I would like you to present this conversation using direct speech. Whenever a new person speaks remember to start a new line and to use speech marks to show when someone starts and then finishes talking. The line of speech ends with a comma, exclamation mark or question mark. Also use different words for ‘said’ to make your conversation more interesting. Look carefully at the text. There are many examples of directed speech. You could also use a little dialect.
2. Continue working through your ‘Talk for Writing’ Booklet. Read page 21, Activity 14. Read through your plan that you completed on page 20, Activity 13. Now start Activity 15 where you are drafting your report.
AFTERNOON
3. Reading
Please remember to read independently for 40 minutes! For your 30 minute Guided Reading Session I would like you start the reading comprehension questions for to Chapters 4 and 5 of ‘Street Child’. Only go as far as finishing question 11. You will need to reread passages of the text to find your answers.
4. Science
I am obviously aware that it is difficult to conduct Science experiments at home. If I give you any to do, you should have everything you need! This week I simply want you to make a prediction. In class our experiment that we will conduct next week will investigate whether newspaper, wool, cling film or foil is the best insulator. We will have 4 mugs of the same size that are to be covered with either the same amount of newspaper, wool, cling film or foil. They will be filled with the same amount of boiling water (at 100 degrees centigrade) and placed in a line on a table with a thermometer placed inside each mug. Every 15 minutes for an hour we will be measuring the temperature of each mug by reading it on the thermometers. I want you to predict which material will keep the water the hottest and is therefore the best insulator and which material ends up with the coolest water and is therefore the worst insulator. Give your reasons for this and explain why the experiment is a ‘fair test’. Remember that a fair test is when everything ‘is the same’. Explain what an insulator is. Draw and label this experiment and give this piece of work the title My prediction of what material will make the best insulator. Next week I will conduct the experiment in class and will give you the results! I would also like you to do a short BBC Bitesize quiz about reversible and irreversible changes. The link:
