Term 3 Week 6

What Lilac Class are doing for the wb. 8.2.21

What we are doing this week in Lilac Class

WB: 8.2.21

In Maths this week in Lilac Class, we will be calculating the area of rectangles and compound and irregular shapes.  We will then be moving onto our new block of learning – Multiplication and Division. This week we are multiplying 2- and 3-digits by 1-digit.

In English, we are going to be studying and comparing poems that have been written about the Victorian workhouse.  We will then be writing our own poem that will be put into a whole class book for our Lilac Class Reading Corner.  In Guided Reading we are now reading Chapters 10 and 11 of ‘Street Child’. Our focus is to explain our opinion about a character’s actions and to make predictions based on what we know about events and characters in the story.  We are also continuing with our new ‘Talk for Writing’ activity Booklet entitled ‘Wonderful Wizards’ complied by Maria Richards.

In RE, at 1.30 on Monday the 8th of February Father John will be leading another Google Meet session about Moses.  He will be revisiting our Big Question ‘How can following God bring freedom and justice?’ as well presenting a power point about the Ten Commandments.  He will be exploring why God gave his people these rules. Lilac class will also be thinking about how Christians apply the ideas of freedom and justice to their ways of living in the world today.  We will be finding out about charities, projects and Fairtrade.

For our Topic this week, we are continuing with our work about inventions that took place during the Victorian period and how this affected people’s lives. In Science, there will be a live Google Meet Science lesson on Wednesday the 10th of February, jointly led by Mr Mackinnon and Dr Charles.   Lilac Class are investigating whether temperature or stirring (force) affects how a substance dissolves.  More details about the session will be posted on the daily Lilac Class Blog for Wednesday.  In Art, we are learning more about the designs of William Morris and will be creating our own based on the theme of nature.

Please remember our whole class Google Meet story sessions at 10.15 on a Thursday.  On Tuesday there will be another live session from the FSC at 10.30.  This time it is ‘A Peep at Ponds’.
