What we are doing this week in Lilac Class
WB: 1.2.21
In Maths this week in Lilac Class, we will be learning about multiples of 10, 100 and 1,000. Lilac Class are building on what they have learnt about multiplying and dividing by 10, 100 and 1,000. This week we will be using our knowledge of other multiples of 10, 100 and 1,000 to answer related questions. For example, if we are multiplying by 20, can we break it down into two steps and use our knowledge of multiplying by 10? We will then start our next block of learning about perimeter and area. This week we are recapping on our knowledge about measuring perimeter and will then move onto calculating perimeter.
In English, the writing task is to level up our piece of descriptive writing about life in a Victorian workhouse. Not only will we be presenting our work in our best handwriting but we will also be checking that we have used expanded noun phrases, fronted adverbials, modal verbs, conjunctions, relative pronouns and a range of punctuation. Our task is also to check that we have covered all the important information and facts. For our Guided Reading we are now reading Chapters 8 and 9 of ‘Street Child’. We will again be thinking about ‘inference’ – when you read between the lines and look for clues in the story. Our particular focus is to examine the actions of Jim and Tip and the reasons behind them. We are also continuing with our new ‘Talk for Writing’ activity Booklet entitled ‘Wonderful Wizards’ complied by Maria Richards.
In RE, we will be creating a ‘conscience alley’ for Moses and the Pharaoh. Our task is to put ourselves in the position of Moses and the Pharaoh after the eighth plague (the plague of locusts) analysing what both of these men must be thinking and examining their state of mind. Lilac Class will also be learning about the 10 Commandments.
For our Topic this week, Lilac Class are learning about the important inventions that took place during the Victorian period and how this affected people’s lives. In Science, Lilac Class are investigating the conductivity of materials and finding out whether an insulator can also be a conductor. In Art, Lilac class are continuing with developing their knowledge about painters during the Victorian period. In addition, we will be finding out about William Morris and the Arts and Crafts Movement and how it came about as a reaction to the Industrial Revolution.
Please remember our whole class Google Meet story sessions at 10.15 on a Thursday. On Tuesday we will have a whole class Google Meet session entitled ‘What to find on a walk’. This will be at 10.30.
