Term 4 Week 4

Here is an outline of your learning for term 4, week 4:
Term 4 Week 4 – overview
Each week we are fortunate to have a ukulele lesson with Mr Lawrence. This year, this will take place on a Monday afternoon. Instruments are provided by the school.
Spelling and grammar –we will be practising words from the statutory spelling list.
In English, we will be continuing a unit on poetry, linked to ecological diversity and the protection of the rainforests. We will be considering how we can bring the sights and sounds of the rainforest to life in a poem. We have created our first tanka poems and will be performing those to the class. We will be collecting them into a class poetry anthology. We will then move on to work on poems with rhyming couplets which should prove to be fun and challenging!
In Maths, we will be counting beyond 1 in fractions, partitioning mixed numbers, using number lines for mixed numbers, comparing and ordering mixed numbers and working with improper fractions.
In RE, we will continue our unit on Salvation, by asking ‘why do Christians call the day Jesus died, Good Friday?’ We will be thinking about how the Maundy Thursday is remembered and celebrated in church today by reflecting on the events at the Last Supper.
In Science, we will be investigating whether gases have a weight. We will design and carry out an experiment to test our ideas.
In Geography, we will be identifying European countries according to their features.
PE is on Monday morning with Mrs Barter and on a Thursday afternoon with Mrs Tompsett. This term we are going to be focusing on fundamental skills and net games in tennis.
Reading records will be sent home, with free-reading children choosing a book from the selection in class or bringing one from the reading scheme. All children have an additional book in their tray for reading sessions in class. Please could we have reading records in school to be checked on Tuesday and Thursday mornings.
Homework will be issued this Wednesday and is due on the following Monday.
