Term 4 Week 3

Here is an outline of your learning for term 4, week 3:
Term 4 Week 3 – overview
This week we will be taking part in two live sessions provided by the National Farming Union on sustainability in farming and habitats. This will link to our visit to the farm last year and prepare us for a science unit on habitats later in the school year.
Each week we are fortunate to have a ukulele lesson with Mr Lawrence. This year, this will take place on a Monday afternoon. Instruments are provided by the school.
Spelling and grammar –we will be learning more words with the -ous ending.
In English, we will be beginning a short unit on poetry, linked to ecological diversity and the protection of the rainforests. We will be considering how we can bring the sights and sounds of the rainforest to life in a poem. We will consider what makes an effective poem, how language adds atmosphere and meaning to a poem and how we can explore the meaning of a poem.
In Maths, we will be completing our unit on perimeter with an end of unit assessment and beginning a new unit on fractions.
In RE, we will continue our unit on Salvation, by asking ‘why do Christians call the day Jesus died, Good Friday?’ We will be thinking about how the Maundy Thursday is remembered and celebrated in church today by reflecting on the events at the Last Supper.
At the end of last term, we began a DT project on sculpting using materials that would otherwise go into landfill. We will be adding the final features to our polar bears and reflecting on the processes we went through to create them.
PE is on Monday morning with Mrs Barter and on a Thursday afternoon with Mrs Tompsett. This term we are going to be focusing on fundamental skills and net games in tennis.
Reading records will be sent home, with free-reading children choosing a book from the selection in class or bringing one from the reading scheme. All children have an additional book in their tray for reading sessions in class. Please could we have reading records in school to be checked on Tuesday and Thursday mornings.
Homework will be issued this Wednesday and is due on the following Monday.
