Term 3 Week 1

Here is an outline of your learning for term 3, week 1:

Term 3 Week 1 – overview

Welcome back and happy new year!

Each week we are fortunate to have a ukulele lesson with Mr Lawrence.  This year, this will take place on a Monday afternoon.  Instruments are provided by the school.

Spelling and grammar –we will be revising words we learnt in the Autumn term.  We will also be revising prior learning on the use of apostrophes.

In English, we will be beginning a new unit of work based on the story, The Great Kapok Tree.  This is a dilemma story with an environmental theme about rainforest deforestation.  We will be exploring persuasive writing techniques, character development and the use of speech punctuation over this term.

In Maths, we will continue our unit on multiplication and division.  We will be looking at factors, multiplying by 10 and 100 and dividing by 10.

In RE, we will commence a unit on Gospel, by asking ‘What kind of world did Jesus want?’.  We will begin by looking at the image from the Big Frieze and will discuss our initial ideas about this key question.

In Geography, we are going to have a focus on world maps and the continents.

This term in Science, we will be learning about electricity and will begin by understanding and correctly using the term ‘appliance’.

PE is on Monday morning with Mrs Barter and on Thursday afternoon with Mrs Tompsett.   This term we are going to be focusing on fitness and gymnastics.

Reading records will be sent home, with free-reading children choosing a book from the selection in class or bringing one from the reading scheme.  All children have an additional book in their tray for reading sessions in class.  Please could we have reading records in school to be checked on Tuesday and Thursday mornings.

Homework will be issued this Wednesday and is due on the following Monday.
