Term 1 Week 5
Here is an outline of your learning for term 1, week 5:
Term 1 Week 5 – overview
On Thursday we are going to Southborough to watch The Chronicles of Atom and Luna – a modern fairytale.
Each week we are fortunate to have a ukulele lesson with Mr Lawrence. This year, this will take place on a Monday afternoon. Instruments are provided by the school.
Spelling and grammar –we will be practising words with the suffix -sion and working on understanding how to break writing up into paragraphs.
In English, we will be looking at the book Escape from Pompeii, by Christina Ballit. We will look for signs of drama in a section of the text. We will then focus on the description of the volcanic eruption in the story and see whether we can order chunks of the text. Using the 4 main phases of the eruption, we will brainstorm descriptive phrases before writing our own version.
In Maths, we will complete our unit on place value. We will be rounding to the nearest 100, 1,000 and then consolidating rounding. We will complete an end of unit assessment to end the unit.
In RE, we will continue our unit on Creation. We will be considering the key themes of another part of Genesis, the story of Adam and Eve.
This term we are learning about sound in Science. This week we will complete our experiment cycle investigating the relationship between sound and distance. We will be reviewing the measurements we took, creating an average, plotting the results, checking our hypothesis and reviewing the effectiveness of the investigation.
In Art, we will be trying to recreate the muted shades of the work of Giorgio Morandi. We will be mixing paint to match particular examples of his work.
In Computing, the pupils will be covering the World Wide Web.
PE is on Monday morning with Mrs Barter and on a Thursday afternoon with Mrs Tompsett. This term we are going to be practising football and basketball skills.
Reading records will be sent home with free-reading children choosing a book from the selection in class or bringing one from the reading scheme. All children have an additional book in their tray for reading sessions in class. Please could we have reading records in school to be checked on Tuesday and Thursday mornings.
Homework will be issued this Wednesday and is due on the following Monday.
