Term 1 Week 4 – overview
Each week we are fortunate to have a ukulele lesson with Mr Lawrence. This year, this will take place on a Monday afternoon. Instruments are provided by the school.
Spelling and grammar –we will be practising words from the statutory year 3 and 4 spelling list. We will also be working on writing in the past and present tense.
In English, we will be looking at the book Escape from Pompeii, by Christina Ballit. We will begin by identifying the sensory descriptions at the start of the book, before brainstorming and creating a list to use in our own writing. We will use the poetry within the book to explore synonyms and create our own pieces of performance poetry.
In Maths, we will continue our unit on place value. We will be comparing and ordering numbers to 10, 000, working with Roman numerals and rounding to the nearest 10.
In RE, we will continue our unit on Creation. We will be considering what we can do to contribute to a good world.
This term we are learning about sound in Science. This week we will be thinking about how distance affects sound and will carry out a fair test. We are working on creating a hypothesis at the start of an experiment cycle.
In History, we will be considering why Rome was founded in that location by exploring the legend of Romulus and Remus, and also looking at the geography of the area. We will look at the size of the Roman Empire at its greatest before we consider how it could become so powerful.
In Computing, the pupils will be covering the World Wide Web.
PE is on Monday morning with Mrs Barter and on a Thursday afternoon with Mrs Tompsett. This term we are going to be practising football and basketball skills.
