Term 6 Week 2

Here is an outline of your learning for term 6, week 2:

Term 6 Week 2 – overview

We would like to welcome Mr Thornton to our class.  He is a trainee teacher who is nearing the end of his course.  Mr Thornton will be with us for the majority of this term and has already settled in really well to Chestnut class.

Reading challenge – we have made a visual display to track our home reading.  Each week when reading records are checked, every child who brings their record (completed with their weekly reading)will earn a star.  Remember that 10 minutes’ of reading each day makes a huge difference to overall literacy and especially expanding vocabulary!

Our ukulele lesson will take place on Tuesday morning with Mr Lawrence.

Spelling and grammar –we will be focusing on using apostrophes for plural possession.

In English, we will be completing our own hero myths based on Beowulf.  We will then spend some of our lessons editing and improving our own writing, before creating neat versions to turn into a book!

In Maths, we will continue our unit on fractions by looking at adding mixed numbers and fractions and subtracting 2 fractions.

In Science, we will complete our unit on 'animals including humans' by investigating food chains.

In RE, we continue our unit on the Hindu religion by learning about how worship takes place in a Mandir.  This follows on from last week’s learning about worship at home – Puja.

In Computing, pupils are working on repetition in shapes using the Scratch program.

PE is on MONDAY MORNING (Mrs Barter and Mr Thornton) and THURSDAY AFTERNOON (Mrs Tompsett and Mr Thornton).

Reading records have been sent home with most children choosing a book from the selection in class or from the reading scheme.  All children have an additional book in their tray for reading sessions in class.  Please could we have reading records in school to be checked on Tuesday and Friday mornings.

Homework will be issued this Wednesday and is due on the following Monday.

Please contact me if you have any queries using the class email address:                              chestnut@st-barnabas.kent.sch.uk

Have a lovely week!

Best wishes,

Mrs Barter
