Term 5 Week 6

Here is an outline of your learning for term 5, week 6:

Term 5 Week 6 – overview

Reading challenge – we have made a visual display to track our home reading.  Each week when reading records are checked, every child who brings their record (completed with their weekly reading)will earn a star.  Remember that 10 minutes’ of reading each day makes a huge difference to overall literacy and especially expanding vocabulary!

Our ukulele lesson will take place on Tuesday morning with Mr Lawrence.

Spelling and grammar –we will be revising the spelling words we have learnt this term.

In English, we will be planning and beginning to write our own hero myths based on Beowulf.  We have already created our own heroes and monsters!

In Maths, we will continue our unit on fractions by looking at understanding improper fractions, converting mixed numbers to improper fractions, converting fractions to improper numbers and looking at equivalent fractions on a number line.

In History, we will be finding out more about the archaeological discoveries made at Sutton Hoo.  We will be thinking about what they can tell us about who was buried there.  We will also be learning about the Scots and Picts.

In Science, we will move on from learning about teeth to the rest of the human digestive system.  We will carry out some simple tests to understand the work of the salivary glands and the role of digestive enzymes.

PE is on MONDAY MORNING (Mrs Barter) and THURSDAY AFTERNOON (Mrs Tompsett).

Reading records have been sent home with most children choosing a book from the selection in class or from the reading scheme.  All children have an additional book in their tray for reading sessions in class.  Please could we have reading records in school to be checked on Tuesday and Friday mornings.

Homework will be issued this Wednesday and is due on the following Monday.

Please contact me if you have any queries using the class email address: chestnut@st-barnabas.kent.sch.uk
