Term 3 Week 3 – overview

Reading challenge – we have made a visual display to track our home reading.  Each week when reading records are checked, every child who brings their record (completed with their weekly reading)will earn a star.  Remember that 10 minutes' of reading each day makes a huge difference to overall literacy and especially expanding vocabulary!

Our ukulele lesson will take place on Tuesday morning with Mr Lawrence.

Spelling and grammar –we will be practising a selection of spelling words from the statutory year 3 and 4 list.  In grammar sessions we will be looking at identifying apostrophes and using an apostrophe to show plural possession.

We will be reading, discussing and answering questions about our new guided reading text, Lob.  Lob is the story of a mysterious, mostly unseen helper in grandad’s garden.  It is a real celebration of nature.

After our assessments last week, we return to our text ‘The Great Kapok Tree’ in English.  We will be consolidating our use of accurate speech punctuation by creating arguments against the deforestation of the rainforest.  Following this, we will deconstruct the book and create a ‘who, what, where, when and how’ brainstorm to help structure our own stories.  We will then use this approach to help us structure more complex sentences.

In Maths, we will continue our unit on multiplication and division with a focus on the 11- and 12-times tables, along with dividing a number by itself and multiplying and dividing by zero.

In RE, our new unit of focus is ‘Gospel’ and we will be considering the big question, ‘What kind of world did Jesus want?’  This week, we will be thinking of the story of the good Samaritan and considering ‘who is my neighbour?’

In Science, we will be commencing a new unit on states of matter.  This week, we will discuss what we already know before learning about particle arrangements in solids, liquids and gases.

In Geography, we will be identifying and naming countries, to build on our understanding of continents.

PE is on MONDAY MORNING and THURSDAY AFTERNOON with Mr Luckhurst.  

Reading records have been sent home with most children choosing a book from the selection in class or from the reading scheme.  All children have an additional book in their tray for reading sessions in class.  Please could we have reading records in school to be checked on Tuesday and Friday mornings.  

Homework will be issued this Wednesday and is due in on the following Monday.
