Term 4 Week 6

Here is an outline of your learning for term 4 week 6

Term 4 Week 6 – overview

Reading challenge – we have made a visual display to track our home reading.  Each week when reading records are checked, every child who brings their record (completed with their weekly reading) they will earn a star.  Remember that 10 minutes reading each day makes a huge difference to overall literacy and especially expanding vocabulary!

We have our usual Monday morning ukulele lesson with Mr Lawrence

Spelling and grammar – we will be revising the prefixes and suffixes we have covered this term.

In English, we will begin planning and writing our persuasive letters on plastic pollution in the ocean.  We have learned and practised some persuasive devices as well as carrying out factual research on the issue.  We now need to bring these two together to create our letters.

In Maths we will continue our new unit on length and perimeter by looking at perimeter on a grid, perimeter of a rectangle and a rectilinear shape and calculating missing measurements of rectilinear shapes.

In guided reading we will be continuing with our new text, The Boy Who Grew Dragons, by Andy Shepherd.  This is a longer text than we have previously studied and we are creating a wall of new vocabulary we are learning as we read.

In RE our new unit of focus is Salvation which leads us up to Easter.  We will be drawing our learning to a close by addressing the question:  Who do Christians call the day Jesus died Good Friday?

Mrs Atkinson will be teaching Science on Monday afternoons.  This term’s topic is animals including humans and will involve the human digestive system and food chains.

In Geography we are going to be learning about lines of latitude and longitude and how to plot locations using these measurments.

We will start painting working on the designs for our sculptures after ensuring that they all have a solid base coat of white.

PE is on MONDAY MORNING with Mr Luckhurst.  Swimming is on Friday.

Reading records have been sent home with most children choosing a book from the selection in class.  All children have an additional book in their tray for reading sessions in class.  Please could we have reading records in school to be checked on a Wednesday morning.

Homework will be issued this Wednesday and is due in on the following Monday.

Please contact me if you have any queries using the class email address:chestnut@st-barnabas.kent.sch.uk

Have a lovely week!

Best wishes,

Mrs Barter
