Term 3 Week 3

Here is an outline of your learning for term 3 week 3

Term 3 Week 3 – overview

We have our usual Monday morning ukulele lesson with Mr Lawrence.

Spelling and grammar – We will be practising the year 3 and 4 spelling list and revising words with a -ture ending.  We will also be learning about using apostrophes to show possession OR contraction.

In English, we continue our work on The Great Kapok Tree.  We will be analysing the arguments made by the animal characters in the story and using this as an opportunity to practise punctuating direct speech.   We will then choose our own animal characters and develop their arguments and corresponding direct speech.

In Maths we will continue our multiplication and division journey looking at the 9 and 7 times tables and division facts.

In guided reading we will be continuing with our new text, The Boy Who Grew Dragons, by Andy Shepherd.  This is a longer text than we have previously studied and we are creating a wall of new vocabulary we are learning as we read.

In RE our new unit of focus is gospel.  We have thought about things that are precious to us, routine activities we do and how we would feel if we had to give them up.  We will now be learning about the calling of the first disciples and how significant it was.

Mrs Atkinson will be teaching Science on Thursday afternoons.  This term’s topic is states of matter.

In computing we will be on lesson 3 of our unit on repetition in shapes where we are using snippets of code to draw shapes and debug faulty codes.

PE is on MONDAY MORNING with Mr Luckhurst.  Swimming will commence this Friday!

Reading records have been sent home with most children choosing a book from the selection in class.  All children have an additional book in their tray for reading sessions in class.  Please could we have reading records in school to be checked on a Wednesday morning.

Homework will be issued this Wednesday and is due in on the following Monday.

Please contact me if you have any queries using the class email address:chestnut@st-barnabas.kent.sch.uk

Have a lovely week!

Best wishes,

Mrs Barter
