Term 4, week 5

It was lovely to see so many parents and carers last week during the Parent Consultation meetings. If you haven’t yet managed to catch up, please message the Maple Class email, and I will organise a time for you to pop in.

This week, we have two exciting activities! On Monday we will be visiting the Trinity Theatre to watch Wild Robot, and on Friday, we will be participating in the Sponsored Walk!

In Whole Class Reading this week we will be reading Alice in Wonderland, an abridged version. This is in preparation for our Show in a Week after Easter. We will share the text as a class and in groups, and look at vocabulary, comprehension and inference.

In English, we will begin planning and writing our own stories, based on The King of the Sky. The emphasis will be on descriptive writing and using direct speech.

Maths will continue with the second multiplication and division unit, focusing on multiplying a 2-digit number by a 1-digit number.

In Art, we will be continuing our portrait unit.

In our Geography topic work, we will continue looking at the United Kingdom, focusing on volcanoes and earthquakes.

PE is on a Monday and Friday again this term, and we will be continuing the tennis unit, so please make sure your child has their PE kit in school.

Homework is issued on a Tuesday and due back the following Monday. If you have any questions about the homework, or if your child is having difficulty completing the work, please email, or leave a note in the homework book.

Reading Records can come in every day, but should always be sent in on a Monday and Thursday. Books will be changed on those days but we will also do our best to change books every day if necessary. If you have any questions about your child’s reading level, please get in touch.

If you have any questions at any point in the year, please email the class email: maple@st-barnabas.kent.sch.uk. For any urgent messages, please email the main office email.

Kind regards

Mrs Smallcombe and the Maple Team
