Term 4, week 4

As you will already know, this week is Parent Consultation week. I am looking forward to catching up with you all. If you haven’t already done so, please go onto Arbor and sign up. If there are no suitable appointments left, please email the class email on maple@st-barnabas.kent.sch.uk, and I will organise an alternative time for you.
In Whole Class Reading this week we will be reading an extract from The Legend of Spud Murphy, by Eoin Colfer. We will share the text as a class and in groups, and look at vocabulary, comprehension and inference.
English will again be focusing on ‘King of the Sky’, by Nicola Davies, with the aim of introducing further descriptive language. We will also continue to use the other related story, ‘Perfect’, by Nicola Davies.
Maths will now move to the second multiplication and division unit, further investigating multiples of ten, looking at related facts and reasoning about multiplication.
In Science, we will be further investigating soils.
In Art, we will be continuing our portrait unit.
In our Geography topic work, we will continue looking at the United Kingdom, focusing on volcanoes and earthquakes.
PE is on a Monday and Friday again this term, and we will be starting the tennis unit, so please make sure your child has their PE kit in school.
Homework is issued on a Tuesday and due back the following Monday. If you have any questions about the homework, or if your child is having difficulty completing the work, please email, or leave a note in the homework book.
Reading Records can come in every day, but should always be sent in on a Monday and Thursday. Books will be changed on those days but we will also do our best to change books every day if necessary. If you have any questions about your child’s reading level, please get in touch.
If you have any questions, at any point in the year, please email the class email: maple@st-barnabas.kent.sch.uk. For any urgent messages, please email the main office email.
Kind regards
Mrs Smallcombe and the Maple Team
