Term 4, week 3

It was lovely to see so many children dressed up for World Book Day!
In Whole Class Reading this week we will continue using the book ‘The Tunnel’, by Anthony Browne. We will share the text as a class and in groups, and look at vocabulary, comprehension and inference.
English will again be focusing on ‘King of the Sky’, by Nicola Davies, with the continued aim of building skills in the use of direct speech. We will still be enjoying the lyrics of a beautiful song, ‘King of Rome’, and investigating another related story, ‘Perfect’, also by Nicola Davies. Nicola Davies is well known for her books, which often include a link to nature, and the positive impact this has on the characters.
Maths will continue to build on the multiplication and division unit, further investigating division, using the 8-times table, before moving on to using the 2, 4- and 8-times tables to make links with multiplication and division.
In Science, we will be completing a practical activity to see how fossils are created!
In Art, we will be continuing our portrait unit.
In our Geography topic work, we will continue looking at the United Kingdom.
PE is on a Monday and Friday again this term, and we will be continuing the fitness unit again this week. Please ensure your child has their full PE kit in school.
Homework is issued on a Tuesday and due back the following Monday. If you have any questions about the homework, or if your child is having difficulty completing the work, please email, or leave a note in the homework book.
Reading Records can come in every day, but should always be sent in on a Monday and Thursday. Books will be changed on those days but we will also do our best to change books every day if necessary. If you have any questions about your child’s reading level, please get in touch.
If you have any questions, at any point in the year, please email the class email: maple@st-barnabas.kent.sch.uk. For any urgent messages, please email the main office email.
Kind regards
Mrs Smallcombe and the Maple Team
