Term 2, week 1
It was lovely to see so many parents/carers during the parent consultation meetings before half-term. If you were unable to attend for any reason, please email the class email, and we can organise something during the next few weeks.
In English this week, we will be finishing our stories, based on the book, Stone Age Boy by Satoshi Kitamura, and writing these in neat copy. We will also be introducing our new text!
Our Whole Class Reading this week will be investigating the lyrics of the song ‘This is Me’, from the Greatest Showman. We will be discussing the text, looking at vocabulary and answering comprehension questions. We will also be having a sing-a-long, which is always popular!
In Maths, we are finishing the Place Value unit and then moving on to the Addition and Subtraction unit. We will be focusing on counting in 50s, completing an end of unit assessment and then applying number bonds and basic addition facts.
We will continue our Stone Age topic work this week, investigating the changes which occurred as the Stone Age moved into the Bronze Age, specifically looking at how bronze was produced.
Last week in science, we will start looking at food groups as part of the nutrition and diet unit.
In Design Technology, we will continue planning our Christmas/Holiday light decoration.
PE is on a Monday and Friday this term, and we will be starting hockey this week. Please ensure your child has their full PE kit in school.
If you have any questions, at any point in the year, please email the class email: maple@st-barnabas.kent.sch.uk. For any urgent messages, please email the main office email.
Kind regards
Mrs Smallcombe and the Maple Team
