Term 1, week 5

This week will again look a little different! As you will already have been advised, we will be travelling by coach to see a show in Southborough on Thursday afternoon. Having seen the details regarding this, it looks like a very exciting opportunity for the children. If you have any further questions about this, please email me on the class email.

In English this week, we will be continuing the writing unit based on the book, Stone Age Boy by Satoshi Kitamura. Focusing this week on descriptive writing, we will be using the illustrations to describe settings.

Our Whole Class Reading this week will be investigating the lyrics from the song ‘When I grow up’, from the musical Matilda. The children will discuss the vocabulary and answer comprehension questions, both as a group, in pairs and independently. As usual with lyrics, I am sure there will be plenty of opportunities to sign along too.

In maths, the main unit is Place Value, and this week we will be further focusing on representing and partitioning numbers to 1,000.

We will continue our Stone Age topic work this week, considering different types of evidence.

Last week in science, we looked at human skeletons, and both the names and functions of various bones in the human body. This week, we will build on this by making comparisons to the bones of a variety of animals.

PE is on a Monday and Friday this term, and we will be continuing the netball unit. Please ensure your child has their full PE kit in school.

If you have any questions, at any point in the year, please email the class email: maple@st-barnabas.kent.sch.uk. For any urgent messages, please email the main office email.

Kind regards

Mrs Smallcombe and the Maple Team
