Term 1, week 4
Last week, Maple Class completed a set of baseline assessments, and I was very proud of how hard they worked! This week, we will be back to normal, and you will find details of the week’s activities below:
In English this week, we will begin a new unit, using the book, Stone Age Boy by Satoshi Kitamura as the basis for our writing over the next few weeks. Focusing on asking and answering questions about a text, we will also introduce the use of a thesaurus to improve our writing.
Our Whole Class Reading this week will be an extract from The BFG, by Roald Dahl. The children will discuss the vocabulary and answer comprehension questions, both as a group, in pairs and independently.
In Maths, the main unit is Place Value, and this week we will be focusing on representing and partitioning numbers to 1,000.
We will continue our Stone Age Topic work this week, further investigating cave art and discussing what it tells us about the Stone Age.
In Science, we will be learning about fossil formation, whilst in computing, we will continue learning about computer networking.
Mrs Johnson will be teaching the children RE on Wednesday, continuing this week with People of God - making clear links between the story of Abraham and the idea of faith.
PE is on a Monday and Friday this term, and we will be starting the netball unit. Please ensure your child has their full PE kit in school.
If you have any questions, at any point in the year, please email the class email: maple@st-barnabas.kent.sch.uk. For any urgent messages, please email the main office email.
Kind regards
Mrs Smallcombe and the Maple Team
