Term 1, week 3
This week will look very different, as the children will be completing some baseline assessments. The assessments allow us to plan for the rest of the academic year, ensuring the children also receive the support they need to reach their potential. We will still be doing other wider curriculum subjects but both maths and English will resume next week.
We will continue our topic work this week, further investigating what is meant by prehistoric and considering what we already know about cave art.
In science, we will be continuing the rocks and soils unit, whilst in computing, we will still be learning about computer networking. The children have also spent time familiarising themselves with some of the Purple Mash activities available to them this year.
In art, we will be starting a series of lessons about still life composition.
Mrs Johnson will be teaching the children RE on Wednesday, continuing this week with People of God. Mrs Johnson has also started the French units, which introduce a modern foreign language in a fun way.
PE is on a Monday and Friday this term, and we will be finishing the Tag Rugby unit this week. Please ensure your child has their full PE kit in school.
A reminder that Reading records were sent out last week, so please let me know if your child has not arrived home with theirs! Ideally, the children should read daily to an adult. If you feel a book sent home is either too hard or too easy, however, please do get in touch. The levels will initially be based on the advice from the Year two team.
Homework also began last week, so please do check the details in the Home Learning books and are included in a separate blog post.
If you have any questions, at any point in the year, please do email on the class email: maple@st-barnabas.kent.sch.uk. For any urgent messages, please email the main office email.
Kind regards
Mrs Smallcombe and the Maple Team
