    Term 3 Week 2

In English this week, we are going to focus on a new genre of writing- Instructions. We are going to start by reading The Twits by Roald Dahl. We are going to think about the nasty tricks that Mr and Mrs Twit play on each other and consider some nasty tricks we could play on our teachers. We will explore how to use imperative verbs to create simple instructions. Finally, we will work together to add detail to these instructions to create a piece of writing entitled, 'How to Make Mr M Angry!'

In Phonics we will learn the tricky words 'world' and 'work'. We will also focus on spelling words which end in 'le' such as bubble, middle and table.

In Maths we are going to turn our attention towards learning the 2x table. We will explore different real-life items that are grouped into pairs and practise skip-counting on a number-line. Finally, we will use and apply this understanding to solve x2 multiplication problems. We will also begin to learn about money. We will make sure we understand the value of each coin and note and learn techniques for finding total amounts of money.

In Mastering Number we will focus on using doubles and near doubles to efficiently solve addition and subtraction problems.

In Time and Place we are going to start our Knights and Castles Enquiry by exploring the concepts of Invasion and Settlement.

In Science and Computing, we are going to start our Robot Algorithms unit by focusing on giving instructions that computers can understand.

We will also complete Guided Reading, Handwriting, PE, RE and Design and the Arts activities. If you would like more information about any of these activities, please do not hesitate to email us using the Beech email address: beech@st-barnabas.kent.sch.uk

    Term 1 Week 7

In English this week, we will complete our diary extracts from the point of view of Samuel Pepys. First, we will explore how we can add really high quality descriptive sentences. Finally, we will explore how we can add in sections which show off our historical understanding and give our diary extract historical authenticity.

In Maths, we are going to focus on working out related number bonds for the numbers to 20. We will explore the inverse relationship between addition and subtraction and work out how this understanding can help us find related calculations. We will also explore how our understanding of multiples of 10 can help us solve more complex addition and subtraction calculations

In Science and Computing, we are going to explore the benefits and dangers of using IT.

In Time and Place, we are going to take a virtual tour of the Museum of London's 'Fire! Fire!' exhibition.
