    Term 5 Week 1

    In Phonics, we are learning how to use the 'ey' digraph to make the /ee/ sound. Examples of words using this pattern include: Key, Monkey, Donkey, Honey, Money, Chimney, Valley, Turkey.

    We are also learning to spell the tricky words 'heart' and 'dangerous'.

    Term 5 Week 1

    In English this week, we are writing our final chapters for our class quest narrative. We will utilise all of the skills that we earned last term to create a fantastic final chapter. 

    In Phonics, we are learning how to use the 'ey' digraph to make the /ee/ sound. Examples of words using this pattern include: Key, Monkey, Donkey, Honey, Money, Chimney, Valley, Turkey. 

    We are also learning to spell the tricky words 'heart' and 'dangerous'. 

    Our grammar focus is using exclamation marks to show emotions and shouting. 

    In Maths, we are focusing on telling the time using an analogue clock. We will start the week be looking at o'clock and half past times. Next, we will focus on quarter past and quarter to tines. Finally, we will explore how to use 5-minute intervals to tell the time. We will also start to look at 2D and 3D shapes. 

    We will also complete Mastering Number, Guided Reading, PE, PHSCE, RE and Design and the Arts activities as well.

    Term 4 Week 6

    In English this week, we are going to explore how to record direct speech in pieces of narrative. First, we will create speech bubbles for two characters in our class quest. Next, we will explore how we can use nad apply the rules of speech punctuation to turn our bubbles into a complete section of narrative. 

    In Phonics, we are learning the tricky words 'England' and 'tongue'. We are also learning to add the -ing and -ed suffix to root words. 

    In Maths we are going to continue to explore fractions. First we will work on finding the whole when we have been given a fraction of a shape or amount. Next, we will learn about the difference between unit and non-unit fractions. Finally, we will explore the equivalence between one half and two quarters. 

    In Time and Place, we will complete our pieces of explanation writing explaining the events leading up to the Norman Invasion of England. 

    We will also complex RE, PE, Design and the Arts, Guided Reading and Number Fluency sessions this week as well as going on a trip to Tonbridge Castle. If you have any questions about these activities, please do not hesitate to ask,

    Term 4 Week 5

    In English and Communication this week, we are focusing on creating pieces of narrative which retell a section of our Class Quest. We will begin by creating simple, compound and complex sentences which retell the main parts of the chapters. Next, we will focus on using adverbs to add detail to these sentences. Finally, we will use sentences which show and tell the audience how Sir Jake is feeling during this chapter. 

    In Phonics, we will be using 'al' to make the /or/ sound. We will also learn the tricky words 'pretty' and neighbour'. We will also use the and/but/so/because conjunctions to add clauses to simple sentences. 

    In Maths, we will continue to focus on Fractions. We will explore how to recognise and find quarters and thirds. 

    In Time and Place, we will continue to explain who we feel should replace Edward I as king of England in 1066. We will choose between Edgar the Atherling, Harold Godwinson, Harald Hardrada and Wiliam Due of Normandy. We will also explain our thinking.

    Term 4 Week 4

    In English this week, we are going to focus on writing short sections of narrative. We are going to focus our attention on Chapter 3 of the class quest- the part of the story where Sir Jake tricks the Witch and turns the frog back into a prince. We will begin by creating simple sentences to retell the story and then move on to using conjunctions to add additional clauses. 

    In Phonics, we are going to focus on using 'mb' to make the/m/sound. We will learn the tricky words famous and shoe. We will also learn how to use a dictionary to look up the meaning of words. 

    In Maths, we are going to turn our attention to fractions. We are going to explore the concept of equal and unequal groups. Next, we will focus on how to recognise and find half of shapes, amounts and distances. 

    In Time and Place, we are going to focus on the year 1066 and the battle for the English crown. We will look at the main claimants to the throne and explore the events surrounding the Norman invasion of Britain.

    Term 4 Week 2

    In English and Communication this week, we are going to create character descriptions for the dragon in our class quest. We will use and apply all of the skills that we over the last two weeks to create these character descriptions. 

    In Phonics, we will be focusing on 'ture' making the /chure/ sound. Our grammar focus will be on creating questions, commands, statements and exclamation sentences. The tricky words we will be spelling this week are 'delicious' and 'fruit'.

    In Guided Reading, we will be answering comprehension questions relating to In to the Woods by Anthony Browne. 

    In Maths, we will finish out work on multiplication and division by focusing on choosing efficient methods to complete multiplication and division problems. Then, we will turn our attention to measuring length and height. 

    In Science and Computing, we will use and apply the learning from last week about dissolving to complete a scientific investigation based around events from our class quest. 

    In Time and Place, we will compare and contrast different types of castles and attempt to use skills of historical enquiry to put castles into chronological order.
