Term 4 Week 1

Here is an overview of our learning activities for the week commencing 24th February 2025.
In Phonics, we will be learning to read and write words containing the ‘ow’ digraph (such as slow, own and window) and the ‘oe’ digraph (such as toe, doe and goes), which both make an ‘oa’ sound in some words. We will also be reading the words ‘once’ and ‘please’ and writing the words ‘thought’ and ‘through’.
We will be using the book ‘Traction Man is Here’ by Mini Grey as a basis for our English work over the next few weeks. This week the children will be listening to the story several times and starting to identify some of the key events to help us to construct a story map.
In Maths, we will be finishing our work on addition and subtraction on Monday. We will then start learning about numbers up to 50. This week we will be counting from 20 to 50, learning about counting in 10s and will be making groups of 10.
We are starting a new topic in RE. Our key question of this term is ‘Why does Easter matter to Christians?’ This week we will be talking about the words “Incarnation” and “Salvation” and how they relate to Jesus’ birth and death for Christians.
In Computing, we will be learning about grouping objects in line with their properties and will start to identify labels for different groups.
Willow class will continue to have PE on Tuesday afternoon and Thursday morning, so please make sure that on these days your child has their PE kit in school and that earrings are removed where possible.
If you have any questions or need help with anything, please contact us using the class email address (willow@st-barnabas.kent.sch.uk).
