2024/25 Term 1 Week 1
Each week we will post a weekly learning update on the Year 1 Blog. This will keep you updated on your child’s main learning activities for the upcoming week. Here is an overview of our learning activities for the week commencing 9th September 2024.
The adults working with Willow Class this term are Mrs Pring (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday afternoon and Friday), Mrs Tompsett (Thursday morning), Mrs Packham (Tuesday to Friday), Mrs Chavush (Class TA Monday, working 1-2-1 with a child Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday), Mrs Bullen (working 1-2-1 Thursday morning), and Mrs Chadwick (working 1-2-1 Thursday afternoon).
This week we will be continuing to settle into the routines of Year 1. Most mornings, the children will take part in activities linked to our Phonics, English and Maths learning. In the afternoons, the children will take part in learning activities for other areas of the curriculum (including RE, Computing, Art and Science), as well as some play-based activities.
In Phonics, we will be continuing to revisit some of the phonemes that were taught in Acorn Class to consolidate the children’s knowledge.
In English, we will be writing simple sentences including verbs ('doing' words).
In Maths this week, we will be counting objects from a larger group, representing numbers using different resources and learning to write correctly orientated numbers.
Our whole class reading and Art focus for the start of this term is the book ‘The Artist’ by Ed Vere. This is a picture book about an artist and her travels. The artist moves to a city to share her art with other people and learns that it is okay to make mistakes. This week we will be painting some colourful pictures like the artist and talking about some of the vocabulary in the story.
In RE, we will be talking about the word “parable” and what it means.
In Science, we will be continuing to talk about everyday materials and will start to find objects made from paper, plastic, wood and metal in the classroom.
In our Computing lesson we will be continuing to learn about the 'technology around us', including what parts of a computer and laptop are called.
This term, Willow Class will have PE on Tuesday afternoon and Thursday morning. Our focus will be on invasion games and developing our ball skills. Please make sure that your child has their full PE kit at school on Tuesday and Thursday.
