Our learning from Term 4 Week 6
We’ve had a busy and exciting final week of Term 4, packed full of learning and special activities!
Phonics:
This week we have been revisiting all our previously learnt sounds and also learnt two new sounds: ‘ar’ and ‘or’. The children practised saying these sounds clearly, spotting them in words, and then writing those words. We even challenged ourselves to write full sentences using these words!
Maths:
In maths, we’ve been building on our understanding of doubles by identifying what the whole is when there are two equal parts. We’ve also been sorting objects into groups based on colour, type and make, using the words ‘different’ and ‘similar’. We explored odd and even numbers and continued comparing height, discussing which objects are taller, shorter, the tallest or the shortest.
RE:
We wrapped up our learning about the Easter story by looking at what happened after Jesus died. We explored the symbolism of Easter gardens and how they remind us of new life—just like how Jesus was resurrected. We then created our own edible Easter gardens using biscuits, icing, mini eggs and sprinkles.
Drawing Club:
We read the brilliant story Real Superheroes, which celebrates all the amazing people who help us in real life. The children chose someone who helps them (like a doctor, firefighter, or teacher), drew their own superhero, and wrote about what makes them so special.
PE – Dance & Gymnastics:
In dance, we focused on control and coordination, learning to copy and repeat actions. The children were fantastic at performing their final group dances—so confident and creative!
In gymnastics, we explored sequences by linking movements together, all themed around pet animals. The children loved slithering like snakes and hopping like bunnies!
Understanding the World:
We revisited the life cycle of a frog, discussing each stage and then cutting and sticking to create our own life cycle diagrams. The children remembered so much—well done!
Kidsbury Trip:
One of the highlights of the term was our trip to Kidsbury! The children were completely immersed in a life-sized role-play town. They dressed up as shopkeepers, postmen, yoga instructors, make-up artists, doctors, nurses, and more! It was a fantastic link to our ‘People Who Help Us’ topic, and everyone had so much fun learning through play.
Welcome Wednesday is every week from 8:30–9:00am—come into the classroom to read with your child or see what they have been learning!
Star of the week: Congratulations to Zenaida, who is our star of the week, for settling back into school so well after having so much time off. Zenaida will be taking home her certificate and Wilfred the Elephant to write in the book all about her time spent with Wilfred over the Easter holidays and will bring him back the Thursday we are back.
Please remember to read with your child, even for just 5 minutes! Please also remember to record it in the reading record. We will only change your child's book if you have read with them 2 or more times in that week! Please remember to have the library book in your children's book bag on Thursday to be changed.
Any issues or concerns we need to know about, please speak to the Acorn team before and after school or email at: acorn@st-barnabas.kent.sch.uk
What a fantastic week of learning!
Happy Easter!
Thank you for all your continued support this term. Wishing you all a restful and joyful Easter break. We look forward to welcoming you back in Term 5!
