Term 3 Week 2

Our learning from Term 3 Week 2

Home learning: A phonics sheet that has been sent home in your child's book bag. Fill in the missing sounds to complete the word.

Phonics

This week in phonics, we continued recapping our Level 2 sounds and tricky words. The children have been practising writing these on their whiteboards, focusing on letter formation and accuracy. It’s wonderful to see their growing confidence in identifying and using these sounds in their reading and writing.

Maths

In maths, we’ve been practising writing numbers from 1 to 10. The children have shown great focus as they worked on forming their numbers correctly. We’ve also been continuing our exploration of partitioning numbers—for example, discovering how 3 and 1 make 4. The children enjoyed using visual aids to see how numbers can be made up of different parts.

RE

Our RE learning this week centred around the question: What makes every single person unique and precious? We revisited the word precious and discussed how the Bible is precious to Christians. We read the story of Jesus welcoming the children and even re-enacted it as a class!
We also introduced our school vision: “Each child is uniquely created and loved by God.” The children practised saying it and reflected on what it means to them. We talked about the name of our school and who it is named after, which added to their understanding of our special school community.

Drawing Club

This week in Drawing Club, we read Harry and the Bucketful of Dinosaurs, which the children absolutely loved. We explored key vocabulary such as fussing, junk, excited, and definitely, discussing their meanings and how they relate to the story.
The children created some fantastic drawings:

  • Harry when he found the dinosaurs.
  • A setting where Harry might take the dinosaurs on an adventure.
  • Their very own dinosaur creations, inspired by our earlier discussion about dinosaur features (e.g., some are small, some big, some have sharp teeth, others have blunt teeth). The creativity and attention to detail were amazing!

PE

In PE, we’ve been working on developing accuracy in throwing a ball. The children transformed into ladybirds and butterflies as they practised their throwing skills. We also focused on bouncing and catching a ball, becoming birds and grasshoppers as we worked on these important coordination skills.

This week has been full of opportunities for the children to explore, imagine, and develop their skills in all areas of learning. Thank you for your continued support, and we look forward to another exciting week ahead!

Star of the week: Congratulations to Sophia, who is our star of the week, for her amazing blending and reading in phonics. Sophia will be taking home her certificate and Wilfred the Elephant to write in the book all about his time spent with Wilfred over the next week and will bring him back next Thursday.

Please remember to read with your child, even for just 5 minutes! Please do also remember to record it in the reading record. We will only change your child's book if you have read with them 2 or more times in that week! Please remember to have the library book in your children's book bag on Thursday to be changed.
