Term 2 Week 6

Our learning from Term 2 Week 6

What a busy and exciting week we’ve had in Reception!

Phonics

In Phonics, we introduced the tricky word go and learnt the sounds l, ff, and ll. The children practised writing these on their whiteboards and did a fantastic job! During continuous provision, they extended their learning by matching pictures to the corresponding sounds, helping to reinforce their phonics knowledge through play.

Maths

In Maths, we continued to focus on recognising numerals and using them in various contexts. The children are becoming more confident in identifying numbers and associating them with quantities.

Drawing club

In Drawing Club, we explored the story My First Nativity. The children showed wonderful creativity as they drew the stable, imagined alternative ways for Mary and Joseph to travel to Bethlehem, and thought about the gifts they would bring to baby Jesus. The story introduced us to exciting new vocabulary, such as Manger, Shepherd, Wise and Travelled!

Physical Education

In PE, we’ve been working on following a path and taking turns, helping to develop spatial awareness and cooperative skills. The children enjoyed moving safely and carefully around the hall, building their confidence and coordination.

Religious Education

In RE, we discussed why children perform nativity plays at Christmas and reflected on the Christmas story. The children shared thoughtful insights and made connections to their own experiences, deepening their understanding of the festive season's significance.

The highlight of our week was, of course, performing our Nativity Play for all of you! The children worked so hard to learn their songs, and they loved sharing their performance with you. We hope you enjoyed watching it as much as we enjoyed preparing it!

Finally, we ended the week with a special trip to the theatre to see Fearless Fox and the Christmas Tale. The children had a wonderful time. We also loved getting involved in the Christmas Fair—thank you to everyone who supported us and donated!

Star of the week: Congratulations to Lena-Mae, who is our star of the week, always offering amazing ideas in lessons. Lena-Mae will be taking home her certificate and Wilfred the Elephant to write in the book all about her week spent with Wilfred over the next week and will bring him back next Thursday.

Please continue sending your children in full PE kits with labelled jumpers on WEDNESDAY'S and FRIDAY'S this term.

If you are reading with your child, please remember to record it in the reading record. We will only change your child's book if you have read with them 2 or more times in that week! Please remember to have the library book in your children's book bag on Thursday to be changed.

Any issues or concerns we need to know about, please speak to the Acorn team before and after school or email at: acorn@st-barnabas.kent.sch.uk

As we near the end of term, thank you for your continued support, and we look forward to more festive fun next week!
