Home Learning Plans

Chestnut Class

Week Beginning: 11th  May

Dear Chestnut parents/carers and children,

Your core learning for the week is set out in this letter.

Reading: Read Chapter 22 Varjak Paw, which is provided for you.  There are also some questions to answer.  See if you can follow the pattern we have adopted of reading and re-reading before answering the questions.

Please also make sure you are carrying out additional reading each day.  You could use the grid below to explain what you are reading to an adult.  Challenge yourself to ask questions based on each area of the chart.

Oxford Owls  This website provides access to free reading material.  You will need to use the log on: chestnut101 and the password: pupil

You have a grammar activity relating to the correct use of ‘I or me’.

You have 2 sets of spellings to work on - there is a quiz for each set on Purple Mash and I have also provided ‘look, say, cover, write’ sheets.

This week’s writing task has a WW2 theme!  You have been given an account of 2 children who were evacuated and I would like you to complete it.  There is a planning sheet to help you generate your own ideas.  Use the skills you have practised in previous writing activities in class to describe characters, emotions and settings.

Please feel free to send finished stories to me so I can enjoy them! chestnut@st-barnabas.kent.sch.uk

Maths:

I have created worksheets that will help further develop your understanding of fractions.  I recommend tackling them in the following order:

Add 2 or more fractions FLUENCY

Add 2 or more fractions REASONING AND PROBLEM SOLVING

Subtracting fractions

Subtracting fractions from a whole amount

You also have 2 tasks set on the website Mathswithparents.  They are on improper fractions and addition and subtraction of mixed and improper fractions.  The videos are especially helpful.

You will need to log on using the Chestnut Class code: 946434

Fluency:  There are 3 fractions tasks set on Purple Mash.  You can also use this platform to practise times tables fluency.

Wider Curriculum -

  • Wider curriculum activities should be selected from the matrix you were sent last week.  The matrix provides a fortnight of activities.
  • Please see the information that has been sent out about celebrating VE Day by having a party at home.  Some of the work in your wider curriculum matrix relates to this very special occasion.

I hope you are all well.

Take care,

Mrs Barter
