Chestnut Class
Week Beginning: 4th May
Dear Chestnut parents/carers and children,
Your core learning for the week is set out in this letter.
Reading: Read Chapter 21 Varjak Paw, which is provided for you. There are also some questions to answer. See if you can follow the pattern we have adopted of reading and re-reading before answering the questions.
Please also make sure you are carrying out additional reading each day. You could use the grid below to explain what you are reading to an adult. Challenge yourself to ask questions based on each area of the chart.
Oxford Owls This website provides access to free reading material.
You will need to use the log on: chestnut101 and the password: pupil
Your spelling, grammar and writing this week are combined. I have provided you with a ‘Talk for Writing’ booklet based on the text The King of Fishes. The work is structured as it would be in our class learning - broken down into steps that enable you to produce your own story. Work through this step by step, tackling part of it each day. I would really like to see some of your finished writing, so please email it to me (photographs of written work or a text document) at chestnut@st-barnabas.kent.sch.uk
Maths:
Continuing our work on fractions, you have activity sheets covering fractions greater than 1 and counting in fractions. For each subject there are fluency activities and then reasoning activities. I recommend beginning with the first sheet for each subject and working through, as they increase in challenge.
You also have 3 tasks set on the website Mathswithparents. These are related to number skills that we have covered over the year (addition of 1s. 10s, 100s and 1000s, subtraction of 1s, 10s, 100s and 1000s and revision of multiplication facts for 2s, 4s and 8s).
You will need to log on using the Chestnut Class code: 946434
Number Fluency: There are 3 fractions tasks set on MyMaths. In addition, you can use Purple Mash to practise times tables fluency.
Wider Curriculum
- Wider curriculum activities should be selected from the matrix you have also been sent. The matrix provides a fortnight of activities.
- Please see the information that has been sent out about celebrating VE Day by having a party at home. Some of the work in your wider curriculum matrix relates to this very special occasion.
I hope you are all well.
Take care,
Mrs Barter
