Term 3 Week 3
Our learning from Term 3 Week 3
Home learning-Practise new sounds
This week in Reception, we had a fantastic time exploring new learning across all areas of the curriculum!
Phonics
We were excited about starting our Level 3 phonics journey this week. The children learnt the tricky word he and the sounds j, v, and w. To reinforce these sounds, we explored objects that begin with them, practised blending CVC words, and honed our writing skills on whiteboards. The children's growing confidence in these new sounds has been wonderful to see!
Maths
In maths, we continued partitioning 5, exploring how numbers can be broken down into different parts. To make learning even more engaging, we sang Five Speckled Frogs, using the song to discuss how many frogs were on the log, in the pool, and altogether. This helped reinforce our understanding of partitioning 5. We also focused on shapes in our environment. Using photos of local shops, buildings, houses, and items in our classroom, we identified and discussed the shapes we could see.
PE
In PE, we worked on their ball skills, we focused on dribbling a ball with our feet. They had fun pretending to be hungry caterpillars and butterflies as they developed control and coordination. We also continued building skills in bouncing and catching balls, further enhancing their focus and teamwork.
Drawing Club
This week’s Drawing Club was inspired by the story Dear Dinosaur. We delved into key vocabulary such as museum, letter, scared, and fossil, discussing their meanings and how they fit into the story. The children drew their interpretations of a museum, imagining what they might see inside.
They also thought about what it would be like to have a dinosaur pen pal—choosing their favourite dinosaur and explaining why they picked it before drawing and annotating their pictures with initial sounds or words. Finally, we imagined an exciting adventure where the story's characters could meet up. The children created fantastic illustrations of their ideas, showing great creativity and imagination.
It’s been a week full of discovery, creativity, and skill-building. Thank you for your ongoing support, and we look forward to another exciting week ahead!
Star of the week: Congratulations to Andriani, who is our star of the week, for her brilliant drawing club contributions, ideas and annotations. Andriani will be taking home her certificate and Wilfred the Elephant to write in the book all about his time spent with Wilfred over the next week and will bring him back next Thursday.
Please remember to read with your child, even for just 5 minutes! Please do also remember to record it in the reading record. We will only change your child's book if you have read with them 2 or more times in that week! Please remember to have the library book in your children's book bag on Thursday to be changed.
