Term 2 Week 3
Our learning from Term 2 Week 3
Home learning: If you wish to receive a reply from our letters to Santa, please send an envelope with your home address and a stamp on it.
The phonics parent information days will now be taking place next term to allow time for the children to finish phase 2 phonics and begin phase 3. Further information regarding this will be released closer to the time!
The sounds we have learnt so far are: s,a,t,p,i,n,m,d,g,o,c,k,ck,e
Phonics
In phonics, we learnt the 3 new sounds 'k', 'ck', and 'e' and practised writing them on our whiteboards. We also learnt the tricky word 'the' and explored how it appears in sentences. The children have continued with their oral segmenting and blending of words containing these sounds. In continuous provision, the children chose a picture and, using magnetic letters, had a go at making that word. E.g tin
Maths
In maths, we’ve been composing and decomposing the numbers 2, 3, and 4. The children have enjoyed discovering different ways to make these numbers, using their fingers and a stampoline for a hands-on approach. We also explored capacity, comparing how much different containers can hold and learning new vocabulary along the way. In our continuous provision learning time, the children had a go at using different coloured multilinks to demonstrate different numbers within 2,3, and 4. E.g. 2 and 1 are parts of 3
Drawing club
In drawing club, we’ve been reading Mr. Benn – Zoo Keeper. The story introduced us to exciting new vocabulary, such as tearful, protect, capture, and habitat. The children have loved creating imaginative drawings inspired by the story and its characters.
Physical Education
In PE, we focused on stopping safely, using balls and hoops with control, and improving our balance in a fun circus-style setup. The children have really enjoyed challenging themselves in these activities.
Art
Our art lessons explored colour mixing—an exciting discovery process where we found out what happens when we combine different colours to create new ones.
Finally, a special highlight of the week was meeting Betsy, the school dog. The children were thrilled to spend time with her, giving her lots of strokes and learning how to interact kindly and calmly with animals.
Star of the week: Congratulations to Kleigh, who is our star of the week, for really working on building relationships and being a very helpful and kind friend. Kleigh will be taking home her certificate and Wilfred the Elephant to write in the book all about her week spent with Wilfred over the next week and will bring him back next Thursday.
Please continue sending your children in full PE kits with labelled jumpers on WEDNESDAY'S and FRIDAY'S this term.
If you are reading with your child, please remember to record it in the reading record. We will only change your child's book if you have read with them 2 or more times in that week!
