Here is an outline of your learning for term 1, week 2:
Term 1 Week 2 – overview
Each week we are fortunate to have a ukulele lesson with Mr Lawrence. This year, this will take place on a Monday afternoon. Instruments are provided by the school.
Spelling and grammar –we will be practising the homophones heel, heal, main, mane, medal, meddle, key, quay, check and cheque. We will also be extending sentences using conjunctions and adverbs.
In English, we will continue to explore the book ‘The Artist’ by Ed Vere. This week we will story map the original text. Then we will create our own main characters, contrasting settings and start planning our own stories.
In Maths, we are beginning the year with a unit on place value. We will be partitioning numbers to 10,000, calculating 1, 10, 100 and 1,000 more and working with number lines to 10,000.
In RE, we will begin our unit on Creation. We will be considering what Christians learn from the text of Genesis. We will also be analysing the Christian Creation story and looking at some of the recurring themes in the language.
This term we are learning about sound in Science. This week we will be thinking about how sound travels and learning about amplitude.
We have already begun learning about how the Romans changed Britain. This week we will investigate the myth of the creation of Rome by Romulus and Remus.
PE is on Monday morning with Mrs Barter and on a Thursday afternoon with Mrs Tompsett. This term we are going to be practising football and basketball skills.
Reading records will be sent home with free reading children choosing a book from the selection in class or bringing one from the reading scheme. All children have an additional book in their tray for reading sessions in class. Please could we have reading records in school to be checked on Tuesday and Thursday mornings.
Homework will be issued this Wednesday and is due in on the following Monday.
