Here is the outline of your learning for term 5, week 2:
Term 5 Week 2 – overview
Reading challenge – we have made a visual display to track our home reading. Each week when reading records are checked, every child who brings their record (completed with their weekly reading)will earn a star. Remember that 10 minutes’ of reading each day makes a huge difference to overall literacy and especially expanding vocabulary!
Our ukulele lesson will take place on Tuesday morning with Mr Lawrence.
Spelling and grammar –we will be learning spelling words with an ‘ly’ ending and working on standard English (were or was, did or done).
We will be reading, discussing and answering questions about our new guided reading text, Lob. We have moved into August and Lucy has been to visit Granny and misses Grandad and Lob.
In English, we will be working on power of 3 descriptions for the inside and outside of the great hall, Heorot. We will also be thinking about the character of Grendel and using powerful verbs to describe movement.
In Maths, we be looking at equivalent measurements, calculating perimeter on a grid, perimeter of a rectangle and perimeter of rectilinear shapes.
In RE, our new unit of focus is an exploration of the Hindu faith. This term we will learn about the origins of the faith and the core beliefs. We will consider what is special and unique about ourselves.
In Science, we will begin a new unit entitled: animals including humans. We will cover the different types of teeth and their functions and will be learning about how the human digestive system works. This week we will complete our investigation into tooth decay without our final experiment results. It will be interesting to see which eggs are most affected by the 4 test liquids.
This term we return to history and will be learning about the Anglo-Saxons. This week we will look at where the Anglo Saxon period fits into a wider historical context and then focus on a time line of key events within the period itself.
In art, we will continue our unit on typography by look at a range of maps created by different artists. We will consider how they have used typography within their designs and experiment with creating our own small maps with intentional choices of font for labelling.
PE is on MONDAY MORNING (Mrs Barter) and THURSDAY AFTERNOON (Mrs Tompsett).
Reading records have been sent home with most children choosing a book from the selection in class or from the reading scheme. All children have an additional book in their tray for reading sessions in class. Please could we have reading records in school to be checked on Tuesday and Friday mornings.
Homework will be issued this Wednesday and is due in on the following Monday.
