Term 5 Week 1
Here is an outline of your learning for term 5, week 1:
Term 5 Week 1 – overview
WELCOME BACK TO THE SUMMER TERM!
Reading challenge – we have made a visual display to track our home reading. Each week when reading records are checked, every child who brings their record (completed with their weekly reading)will earn a star. Remember that 10 minutes’ of reading each day makes a huge difference to overall literacy and especially expanding vocabulary!
Our ukulele lesson will take place on Tuesday morning with Mr Lawrence.
Spelling and grammar –we will be recapping spelling words from last term and working on standard English (I or me, were or was, did or done).
We will be reading, discussing and answering questions about our new guided reading text, Lob. We have moved into May and Lucy hasn’t seen Lob since she was last at Clunny Cottage.
In English, we will be editing and copying up our water cycle information texts. We will then move on to our work based on the Anglo-Saxon epic poem, Beowulf. We will be using an adaptation to base our own stories upon.
In Maths, we will be revising formal methods of multiplication and division before completing an end of unit assessment. Following on from this, we will move onto learning about units of length and measuring perimeter.
In RE, our new unit of focus is an exploration of the Hindu faith. This term we will learn about the origins of the faith and the core beliefs. Friday?’
In Science, we will begin a new unit entitled: animals including humans. We will cover the different types of teeth and their functions and will be learning about how the human digestive system works. This week we will begin by setting up an observation experiment on tooth decay!
This term we return to history and will be learning about the Anglo-Saxons. This week we will begin by considering what we already know and what we would like to know.
In art, we will continue our unit on typography by looking at a range of maps created by different artists. We will consider how they have used typography within their designs and experiment with creating our own small maps with intentional choices of font for labelling.
PE is on MONDAY MORNING (Mrs Barter) and THURSDAY AFTERNOON (Mrs Tompsett).
Reading records have been sent home with most children choosing a book from the selection in class or from the reading scheme. All children have an additional book in their tray for reading sessions in class. Please could we have reading records in school to be checked on Tuesday and Friday mornings.
Homework will be issued this Wednesday and is due in on the following Monday.
