Term 3 Week 4

Here is an outline of your learning for term 3, week 4:

Term 3 Week 4 – overview

Reading challenge – we have made a visual display to track our home reading.  Each week when reading records are checked, every child who brings their record (completed with their weekly reading)will earn a star.  Remember that 10 minutes’ of reading each day makes a huge difference to overall literacy and especially expanding vocabulary!

Our ukulele lesson will take place on Tuesday morning with Mr Lawrence.

Spelling and grammar –we will be practising a selection of words with the ch spelling pronounced ‘k’.  In grammar sessions we will look at identifying apostrophes and using an apostrophe to show plural possession.

We will be reading, discussing and answering questions about our new guided reading text, Lob.  Lob is the story of a mysterious, mostly unseen helper in grandad’s garden.  This week the story will take a dramatic turn!

In English, we will be looking at persuasive techniques and see whether we can identify them in The Great Kapok Tree.  We will then try creating our own examples.  We will then begin planning our own stories by choosing 3 or 4 rainforest creatures and then the arguments against deforestation that they will voice.

In Maths, we will complete our first unit on multiplication and division with a focus on dividing a number by 1 and itself, multiplying 3 numbers and completing an end of unit assessment.

In RE, our new unit of focus is ‘Gospel’ and we will be considering the big question, ‘What kind of world did Jesus want?’  This week, we will be thinking of the story of the good Samaritan and considering ‘who is my neighbour?’  We will also look at the message of the story of the healing of the leper.

In Geography, we will be learning some of the key geographical features of each continent.

PE is on MONDAY MORNING and THURSDAY AFTERNOON with Mr Luckhurst.

Reading records have been sent home with most children choosing a book from the selection in class or from the reading scheme.  All children have an additional book in their tray for reading sessions in class.  Please could we have reading records in school to be checked on Tuesday and Friday mornings.

Homework will be issued this Wednesday and is due in on the following Monday.
