This Week's Learning

Term 1 Week 5

In English and Communication this week, we will start a new piece of first person recount writing. We are going to write from the point of view of Samuel Pepys and describe the events of the night of 2nd September 1666- the night the Great Fire of London started. We will begin by creating and sequencing simple sentences. We will use use adverbial phrases to add detail and interest to our writing.

In Phonics we are going to revisit all the Level 5 sounds we learnt in Yr1. We will also practise all the Y1 Tricky Words as well.

In Guided Reading, we are going to explore the key features of non-fiction texts. We will then use this understanding to read books about materials.

In Maths, we are going to complete our place value unit. We will compare numbers and then learn to count in 2s, 3s, 5s and 10s.

In Time and Place, we are going to explore why the Great Fire of London was so difficult to put out. We will also compare and contrast modern fire fighting equipment with fire-fighting equipment from 1666.

In Science and Computing, we are going to explore the benefits of using IT.

We will also complete Design and the Arts, PE and Mastering Number sessions as well. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us directly using the class email address.
